Bowman's Beach & Visitors Center

Bowman's beach is less then a 5minute drive from our house. Throughout the Island, parking lots are meter fee of $3/hour which is great because it forces us to keep the time so as not to stay in the hot sun too long.  Early morning is best for us so from 9-10am we enjoyed scoping out shells, warm Gulf waters, and beach birds. There was so few people there that it practically felt like our own little slice of heaven!

This afternoon we took a quick trip to the island's Visitor Center. We typically try to fly under the radar and not act like tourists on vacation but the island is mostly closing up after Labor Day for the season. The woman was incredibly nice and gave us many tips that were helpful for entertaining a toddler like where the shaded playgrounds are, the library story hours, best beach to take both the TinyTot and the dog too, etc. Surprisingly, dogs are allowed on all beaches as long as they are on a 8ft or shorter leash!

On the drive home, Keiki was a little squirmy-wormy in her car seat so we decided to make a short stop at a playground. This one was not shaded and when the temperature is in the upper 90*, water is essential and it's easy to melt sunscreen lotion right off your body!  So short outside adventures seem to be key with this little munchkin.  This playground was fascinating because the whole thing has this lightning rod structure over it that looked like a protectant spider web!
