House Sold

Home Sweet Irish Home
The leaves aren't the only thing blowing around in a whirlwind this autumn, so is our family!  Within hours of our open house we had our first offer to purchase our home and within 24hours, we had 3 contending offers to choose from. Highest bidder? Strongest financial buyer? Couple with the love poem?  You name it, we had it available to choose from, so it was hard to choose!!  In a country where homes are becoming increasingly harder to sell and purchase, we are lucky to live in an area where good solid homes like our sell like hotcakes!
Our home was officially "sale pending" within 48hours and we were confident that the inspection would go smoothly.  At this point all parties have already signed the purchase and sale paperwork and we are all awaiting our next check box.  Isn't this exciting?!

Sorbet at Jerry's

It was another hot 106*F day here on Sanibel Island so we took a trip to the beach again.  I really love that it's only a 3minute drive from the house we rented!  Today was the first time our little one really wanted to not only go in the ocean, but have me hold her in the water up to her shoulders to swim!  She is certainly getting brave!  But the extreme heat is certainly getting to us, making us all cranky and tired.  And she isn't napping well (like only 30minutes instead of her 2hours!) because her 2yr old molars are coming in.  So we decided to beat the heat by going to Jerry's Marketplace fro some sorbet and see the parrots. There are so many great homemade ice cream places on both Sanibel and Captiva Islands, but most have an egg-based or peanut product and can't be trusted as allergy-safe for our munchkin.  But the sorbet was safe for her egg & peanut anaphylaxis allergy... so we got TWO for her: Watermelon & lemon, what a treat!  And even though we've been here over a week now, I have yet to get a chance to use the kitchen to make a diner.  I was able to sneak away form the pool to make a veggie pizza & salad for us.  What a treat for me to be able to take a Mommy-duty break and enjoy cooking dinner in such a fancy kitchen!

Doodles at the Beach & Alligators

What I love about Sanibel is that the whole island is dog-friendly.  Captiva Island has now closed the beaches to our four-legged friends, but Sanibel is still happy to let dogs frolic along on the beach as long as they are on a leash.  Even the water fountains have an adult size, child size, and dog bowl option which is pretty cool!  Doodles has been to the beach before, but up in Maine in the winter season.  Here at Bowman's Beach (only 3minute drive for our rented house!), she was basking in the hot sun and liked the bubbles at the tips of the waves.
Our two-year old loved collecting shells to throw like rocks into the ocean.  For her morning snack time, my husband dug a hole for her to put her legs in to keep them buried in the cool sand - she loved it!

After nap time, Keiki and I went on a Mommy-Daughter date to find the only playground on the island that is in partial shade.  It's a small one at the Periwinkle Shopping Place, about the size of a face back yard playset, but just enough to entertain her and keep her in the shade!

After looking at the map we saw there was a butterfly garden on the other side of the shops, and we slowly made our way over in the 106*F heat only to find it was a minimal tree garden  to attract them, and obviously too hot for any fluttering friends.  So we made our way back to the car for a cool drink of water and a snack instead.
This is Bailey's General Store.  It's hidden a the end of Periwinkle Way, before turning up to connect to Sanibel-Captiva Rd.  It's an expensive grocery store but no more then Jerry's.   We found that the only Publix grocery store is traveling of the island about a 40minute drive and then paying $6 toll to get back here so if you only need one or two items it's best to just stop at Jerry's or Bailey's.  And since all we needed was pizza dough and some more juice boxes, Bailey's was perfect!
Pool time is becoming pretty addicting in the later afternoons. The sun is less hot and it entertains Keiki forever!  It's nice to have this luxury as an alternative to watching a cartoon before dinnertime. She has had some strong-willed Mommy attachment issues lately so it's usually her and I playing at the pool while my husband cooks dinner.  Beach balls and pool noodles are available, but one of her favorite things to do is take the plastic cups and pour water back and forth.  She practices so diligently and I love how focuses she becomes not to spill a drop!
Bedtime for the TinyTot is at 7pm so Brian decided to try his hand at catching a photo of the alligators we've been seeing down by the river.  I saw a massive one last night, about 1/2 the size of the dock which is over 6 feet and it scared the socks right off me!  Then this afternoon Brian saw two swimming right along. Needless to say, he got this close to the dock and realized how scary it would be to see it up close and he came right back in...  no need to be eaten by any large prehistoric animals on this trip!

Finishing Labor Day Weekend

It was raining cats and dogs this morning, we woke up to crazy thunderstorms!  It flooded the driveway and we could see the back dock.  Such impressive rain they get here in Florida!
Best thing to do after a good storm is go out for shelling!  Keiki is sporting the proper gear, complete with her island attire, sun glasses, matching sand pails, and Keene sandals (thanks to my cousin Laura!)
I know we're pushing it watching TV two days in a row, but today this TinyTot actually "watched" her first movie ever: Pocahontas!  She only watched the first 20 minutes but loved the animals and music!  Move over Daniel Tiger, hello Disney movies!

Light up like a Christmas Tree

Last night we enjoyed watching the lightning and thunder from the balcony far out in the distance, and then super quickly, the storm rolled in off the ocean bringing rain storm like pouring buckets from the lanai!  But it gave way to a beautiful morning! The ibis birds were down at the dock to greet us good morning.
We enjoyed another lazy day at the pool, which has become the greatest asset of this house.  I like that the pool screen keeps Doodles safely contained from all the wildlife she's continually trying to hunt. And the pool screen keeps out the excessive bugs and criters, but occasionally some get in and they are creepy-crawly!  We pull out the pool toys for us to all play with and have started keeping a designated bug spray and sunscreen down there so we don't forget it because the sun is hot here!

Lizards and centipedes are everywhere!  We even saw the colorful Lubber grasshopper!

In the afternoon we took a short trip to one of the local grocery stores, Jerry's.  We are noticing that each setting for a store has more then one store to attract tourists, making it more of a marketplace trap.  Jerry's is fun though because there are many parrot cages scattered around for Keiki to wave "hi" and talk to the birds by saying "tweet tweet."  Great entertainment for a TinyTot!
When prepping dinner back at home, sometimes we allow Keiki to watch Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.  It is a cartoon version of the Mr. Rogers we grew up with.  Turn on any other TV show and she takes no interest in it, but give her a cheery slow-paced cartoon tiger and she can be entertained for almost 20 minutes!  We realized that she hasn't watched it in almost 2 weeks since we started our road trip down to Florida so we watched her light up like a Christmas tree when we turned it on an let her park it on a special rug to relax.  It's the simple things that entertain this munchkin the most!

A Saturday Wedding Anniversary in Sanibel

Today Brian took photos of birds, fish and lizards during naptime and I relaxed inside reading.
We celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary with Margaritas and homemade tacos.  And our TinyTot tackled a whole taco all by herself!

Happy Anniversary!

Ten years ago I met my best friend.
Then on Labor Day weekend in 2009, I married the love of my live!
It was a beautiful Saturday in the NH Lakes Region and a magical day to start all our life adventures together  :-)
Happy 6th Anniversary!!

Florence, SC

Sunday, August 30: This evening we met Brian's Dad & Mia for dinner at the Mellow Mushroom in Florence, South Carolina. We drove 360 miles south from Virginia to SC and they drove up from Myrtle Beach.  They brought their dog also so it was also great for the dogs to have a play date too!

Cornfield Plane Crash

While visiting family in Pennsylvania, we took a short walk over to one of the local corn fields. It was a great short adventure to see a recent small plane crash (not to worry, the pilot and passenger both walked away from the crash!) I'm not sure what was more fun: walking through the corn path or seeing the plane!

Lititz, PA

Saturday August 29: Today we visited Brian's Aunt Karen & Uncle Rick near Lancaster, PA which is best known for being Amish Country

Clinton, NJ

Friday August 28 (Thursday night to Saturday early morning): We visited my parents in Clinton, New Jersey. My brother and his fiancé came over to help us pre-celebrate Keiki's 2nd birthday complete with vanilla & chocolate ice cream!
